Today we honor Thomas Stewart with the Philadelphia Fire Department whose LODD was 7/25/1965. We do not have a picture of this firefighter if you have this information please contact us and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Philadelphia Fire Department was dispatched to the House of Correction for a sick inmate. The patient was placed in a police patrol wagon to be transported to Philadelphia General Hospital. Fireman Stewart had accompanied the patient in the patrol wagon to administer oxygen to the patient. While enroute to the hospital the police wagon was involved in an accident at Frankford & Sheffield Street. The wagon was overturned in the accident, and Fireman Stewart was thrown from the wagon and died of the injuries he sustained.
