History of the Pennsylvania Fallen Firefighters Foundation
The Pennsylvania Fallen Firefighters Foundation was established upon learning that Pennsylvania was only one of two states that did not have a state fallen firefighter memorial (the other state being Hawaii). After my husband, Philip “Ginter,” died in the line of duty in 2021, I felt that these heroes could, but should never be forgotten or allowed to have their sacrifice be in vain. Every name on this monument reflects a life well lived, with the story of a hero to be told. These were souls who were prepared every day to do whatever it took, including giving the ultimate sacrifice, to protect their communities’ families and the public from harm. Many of these stories are reflected on our Facebook page and in the real-life accounts of what they sacrificed for you and me.
I was inspired to begin this journey in January of 2023, and divine intervention has placed many people along the path at perfect times to get this project underway. We started as a small group who introduced this project to State Representative David Rowe, and his office was quickly on board, resulting in many meetings with additional representatives to move the mission forward.
It has taken many years and countless hurdles to progress to the point we are at today. We have had many successes, some frustrations, doors opened, and some closed. When doors were closed, windows were opened, and with the support of my team and a dedicated network, we are coming to this major milestone in the journey.
In 2025, I had the honor of meeting William Cenk at the Remember Me Rose Garden in Somerset, Pennsylvania, when I served as a volunteer. The quiet serenity of this place seemed to have the ability to bring peace and calmness that passes all understanding, and with his tremendous assistance, it became the goal to include the memorial at this location.
We have become a nonprofit organization and have a presence on Facebook at the Pennsylvania Fallen Firefighter Foundation (PAFFF). On this website, we honor the memory of those firefighters who have died in the line of duty. We are currently using the names that have been honored on the National Fallen Firefighter Memorial in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
