Lieutenant John McGinley

Today we honor Lieutenant John McGinley with the Allentown Fire Department - Engine 6 & Truck 2 whose LODD was 8/8/1976. Lieutenant John McGinley, 38 Allentown Fire Department. Allentown, PA Lieutenant McGinley died from the injuries he sustained when he was caught in the second of two explosions at a residential home in the 1100 block of Oak Street. The two explosions happened twenty minutes apart. Fire crews were originally called for a home that exploded. Upon arrival they found the first home leveled, and began to put out the fire that remained. While they were at the scene of the first explosion, a second home exploded across the street. Lieutenant McGinley had become trapped in debris. Reports indicated a broken gas main had been stripped of support after a sinkhole developed under it.Department - Engine 6 & Truck 2 whose LODD was 8/8/1976.
