Today we honor Gordon Stark with the Pequea Valley Fire Department whose LODD was 8/12/1981. On the afternoon of August 12, 1981, while near his home in Martic Township, Lancaster County, Stark was attempting to rescue his 8-year-old daughter, Kristine, from the Susquehanna River. She had slipped into swirling, 10-foot-deep water while playing on rocks. Stark successfully pulled her to safety but was himself swept away by the current.
